Because addiction is a chronic disorder, relapse prevention a critical component of any recovery program. The relapse prevention program at El Centro de Libertad helps participants identify and overcome the high-risk situations that have triggered their relapse in the past. The weekly group sessions teach decision-making and problem-solving skills, while providing participants an opportunity to rehearse coping skills for responding to stressful situations.

Participants attend weekly 2-hour relapse prevention groups and meet with their individual counselor monthly or as required. The work during the individual sessions is guided by an individualized prevention plan, jointly developed by the participant and his or her counselor. Extra individual sessions are scheduled when the client relapses or is demonstrating signs of relapse. Participants are also required to complete homework assignments, pass random drug and alcohol screens and attend three 12-step support groups per week.

Available in English and Spanish.
