The primary treatment program at El Centro de Libertad addresses the initial stages of recovery. Sessions:
Clients are required to attend one 1-hour/week individual counseling session, one 2-hour/week group education/counseling session, and three weekly 12-step support group meetings. They are also expected to complete their assigned homework, and pass random drug and alcohol screens.
Individual counseling sessions offer an opportunity to address personal problems and weaknesses, and to reinforce areas in which the participant is experiencing success. The group sessions focus on introducing the recovery process and problem-solving. Participants learn to take responsibility for their problems with drugs and alcohol, and begin to recognize denial and other signs of minimization, such as family and relationship problems, legal and medical concerns, etc.
This is a 90-day program, with treatment extended for clients who cannot meet the sobriety or other program requirements. Graduates are encouraged to enroll in the aftercare program offered by El Centro.
Last year over 600 adults completed primary treatment at El Centro.
San Mateo County Alcohol and Drug Services, Probation, Drug Court, Parole, employers, family members, school counselors, and other agencies refer clients to the program. Self-referrals are welcomed.
Available in English and Spanish.
