El Centro de Libertad provides an integrative treatment program for clients who are addicted to drugs and/or alcohol, and have been diagnosed with moderate to severe mood disorders, e.g., schizophrenia, bi-polar disorder, depression, acute and impairing post-traumatic stress, or borderline personality. Treatment addresses two issues: achieving and maintaining sobriety, and stabilizing the co-occurring disorder through ensuring that the participant follows their medication regime. El Centro offers this program in cooperation with the Department of Mental Health.
Clients are expected to attend a weekly one-hour individual counseling session, weekly two-hour psychoeducational groups, and two weekly 12-step support groups. They are also expected to pass random drug and alcohol screens and complete all aspects of their treatment plan. The counselors at El Centro maintain close contact with the participant's doctors, psychiatrist, family and/or house manager to ensure that problems are immediately addressed before they escalate.
The dual program serves clients prescribed non-addictive antidepressants or other non-addictive medications. We refer clients with more severe disorders, and clients on painkillers and other addictive medications to other programs
The program is open-ended: clients remain in treatment as long as they can benefit from the program.
This program is currently only available in English.
